This Year’s Royal Flush

ACP’s Annual Royal Flush basketball game was held tonight, November 20th, from 7:30 pm to 9 pm.  As spectators walked into ACP Erie’s gym, they were all given a roll of toilet paper.

Daniel Chukwu, #21, scoring the first point for ACP

You might be thinking; why toilet paper? Well, it’s not as absurd as it sounds. ACP’s legendary Royal Flush celebrates the start of the winter sports season. The second the varsity boy’s team scores their first basket of the season, ACP spectators throw the toilet paper into the air and storm the court with a fury of white.

This year’s basketball game wasn’t any different. Even after a sad loss (60-67 for the Horizon Honors) Daniel Chukwu, #24 and a junior at Erie, made the first basket.

The climax of the Royal Flush

After he did, ACP’s fans jumped in the stands and threw their toilet paper with a huge intensity onto the court, which can only be described as a gigantic white frenzy. Not only was the court covered in white, but so were many of the players on both teams. After a quick clean up, the game was back on and our Knights continued to do what they do best: play ball.

By halftime, ACP was in the lead with 35-33. The game itself ended after one hour and a half, with the Knights losing by only seven points. It was a very close game and many onlookers were on the edge of their seats. Even though we lost, our boys played amazingly and we cannot wait for the next game of the season. Great game, boys!
