As Thanksgiving is coming around, people have begun preparing by stocking up on food and making dinner plans. Thanksgiving is a holiday known for its food and showing gratitude while being surrounded by your loved family and friends. This celebration has been recognized since 1621 when the England Plymouth colonists and Native American Wampanoag came together to participate in an autumn harvest feast. This event is known as the “First Thanksgiving” in the colonies. However, Thanksgiving wasn’t an official holiday until 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln declared it to be commemorated each November.

Typically, a Thanksgiving dinner consists of turkey, gravy, potatoes, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, and stuffing. Getting together on this memorable day usually includes several people, and buying food for them can sometimes be quite pricey. Sadly, not everyone can be as fortunate in this aspect. But, ACP has found a way to incorporate everyone to celebrate this remarkable holiday. Thanksgiving Food Drives play a crucial role in connecting with others, fostering a sense of community, and ensuring that the holiday spirit extends to those in need. Some food that you can donate to the drive is pasta, tomato products, canned fruit, cereal, peanut butter, dry beans, rice, canned beans, ramen, cake mix, frosting, side dishes, and mashed potatoes. They are also looking for hygiene/toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body lotion/wash, feminine products, toilet products, tissues, baby wipes, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.

This generous act of giving back not only serves as a reminder to be grateful for all that you have but also to support one another, as it is salient to create a supportive environment. I hope that every one of you gives thanks this holiday season, and I encourage you to participate in this drive, as I will do so myself. We all make up the phenomenal ACP family with our endless kindness and generosity. Go Knights!
