MORP

MORP

As we get farther and farther into the school year, more dances and fun events are coming up, such as MORP. Our MORP dance will be held on March 5th and will go from 7:00 P.M.. to 10:00 P.M. in the courtyard. It is more of a causal dance, so you don’t need to dress up a lot unless you want to. If you would like to bring someone to MORP that doesn’t go to ACP, then you can pick up a guest pass at the front office and turn it there as well. They are due on Thursday, March 3rd.

MORP is a very fun traditional dance that has been going on for a very long time. Dating back to the 80s, it really makes you think about its origin. How did the MORP dance come to be, who invented it, who made it an official dance? The origin story of MORP is quite interesting and has an amazing background. Back in the early 80s, high school students decided to make up a new school dance called MORP. They wanted it to be a sort of anti-prom where everything was casual and people could just be relaxed.

They wanted an alternative celebration because PROM was always known to be very formal. They wanted to give students a sense of normalcy and just let everyone hang loose and have fun. Students wanted to name it MORP because it would not be a regular dance; they wanted it to have many differences from a regular Prom. So they came up with the idea of making Prom backward and naming the dance MORP. Also breaking off from tradition, they decided to make it girls ask guys.

Usually, people would wear very bright colors, fun mismatch outfits, sunglasses, crazy socks, and they wanted everything on their outfit to look crazy and fun. They wore a lot of very bright and funky jewelry and always went crazy with their hair doing it in all types of wild hairstyles. The MORP dance is going to be so much fun. There will be lots of dancing, laughter filling the air, and much-needed company with friends. Don’t worry too much about what you need to wear, this is a more casual dance. This dance is a great way to let loose and have fun with your peers, and we hope to see you there!
