Delving Into the World of Art

Known for its academic achievement, ACP Erie also happens to hold a handful of creative and artistic students. One of the fellow students,  Danielle Devoy, is a senior in Ms. Krom’s AP Studio Art class. This school year is Danielle’s second year of AP Art, and she has already begun preparing her art portfolio, or a collection of her best works to showcase to future employers and colleges. I asked Danielle some questions about her portfolios and she happily complied:

Q: What are your portfolios about?

A: My portfolios, since this is my senior year, have to do with my breath and my concentration this year, so I’m going to use my breath as kind of a diary about what goes on in my life and use my art pieces to express what I’m going through and how I’m feeling. My concentration, since sustainability is really big for me, I’m going to be focusing on pollution in the cities I travel to and kinda showcase that in my art.

Q: How long have you been working on them?

A: I’ve been working on these since last year. This is my second year for AP Art, so I’ve been working on it for a while .

Q: What inspired you to create the art you included in your portfolio?

A: A lot of my art is stuff that I’m really passionate about, so one of my favorites pieces is a combination of a bug and a dog, so its kinda like a bumblebee and a dog, but I really care about the bees, so its stuff that I think needs to be expressed better and more clearly.

Q: Which artwork are you most proud of?

A: I would have to stay I’m most proud of the one I’m working on right now, which is kind of this pink lemonade piece, its very graphic, its really cool.

Q: Do any of your pieces have themes or meanings?

A: Yeah, with all my pieces I try and follow a theme or a specific meaning. A lot of the time Ms. Krom will give me a prompt or something, and I’ll kinda go wild with that. They all follow one meaning or another.

After our interview finished, I went to Ms. Krom’s room and looked around at the different art portfolios her students had made. She only had a few, including the one to the right, painted by Morgan Rumsey. These talented students continue to pursue their passion of the arts everyday, and its only with great kindness that I can truly wish them happy success.
