As the festive seasons are upon us, baking is common among families. Baklava, a popular international dessert, is often served and consists of layers of phyllo dough brushed with butter and filled with sweet ingredients, such as honey syrup and cinnamon-flavored chopped nuts. To make Baklava, you will need phyllo dough, walnuts, honey, water, lemon juice, orange peel, cardamom, cinnamon, sugar, and melted butter.

Before starting, preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Thaw the phyllo dough completely, and grind the nuts, cinnamon, and cardamom in a bowl. Once coarsely ground set it aside and make the honey sauce. To prepare the phyllo, unroll the sheets flat on a surface and make them the size of a nine-by-12-inch baking dish. Cover them with a damp towel as you assemble the rest of the Baklava to prevent them from drying out. Using melted butter, baste the bottom and sides of your baking dish. Then lay one sheet of phyllo brushed with butter onto it, and repeat with ten sheets. Spread one-fifth of the chopped walnuts on top and cover with five sheets of phyllo brushed with butter. Repeat this process three more times.

Once you finish the ten sheets, slice them into four long strips with a knife, then cut diagonally to give them a diamond shape. Put your Baklava in the oven for an hour and 15 minutes, then drizzle honey syrup to coat it. Before enjoying your flavorful Baklava, let it cool for at least six hours or overnight. Then, you can finally enjoy the traditional meal!
