There are numerous opportunities that arise during a student’s four years of high school, and one of those opportunities here for students at ACP is the East Valley Institute of Technology, known by its acronym EVIT. EVIT is a public career and technical education district that permits students of ACP among other schools within the CUSD to enroll in their program. Because EVIT is a public school, tuition is free as long as students meet the criteria such as having completed the proper prerequisites. Juniors and seniors are allowed to attend three periods of their day in turn for the other half of their day being spent at EVIT, whether that be in the morning or afternoon.
I had the opportunity to gain some insight as to what EVIT is like from a few of our Knights. Nanabah Yazzie, a Junior who spends the first half of her day at EVIT for Aviation, said that “I am able to learn about a career that I love. It’s also nice being able to meet new people that share the same goals and expectations as you. I find it’s more hands-on, and you get to learn more about the career you are pursuing.”
As for getting onto the campus, there isn’t only one way. Being nearly half an hour away from ACP by car, it’s convenient to use other modes of transportation, which can vary among students. Some students take the bus when coming back from EVIT, while others drive themselves to and from the campuses. Junior Kayla Krsul said that “I ride with my friend to EVIT and then drive to ACP for the rest of the day.” EVIT is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who is interested in expanding their academic experiences and pursuing their careers.
