ACP Robotics Dominates the Arena
On January 12th, ACP Robotics fought bravely on the tech mat in our very own ACP-Erie gym. Although the entire robotics team consists of four groups, only two attended the latest tournament: the Blacksmiths and the Knights. From 7:30A.M. to 5:00P.M., these two teams perfected their robotic competitors to attain a higher score than the intense opposition.
Our fantastic ACP Oakland team took home the amazing Tournament Champions trophy, which qualifies them for the state or regional CREATE championships. The win can be attributed to the ACP Oakland team on their tenacity during the competition, and we can’t wait to see what the Noble Knights pull out next!
Our ACP Erie Blacksmiths scored three points in programming, which is the coding aspect of the robot. Credit can be offered to our AP Computer Science program and the amount of dedication that the club members put in outside of the allotted school time.
The ACP Erie Knights team did not place, but performed extremely well during the entire tournament. Despite not placing, it is worth mentioning that the team had worked under extreme pressure to have the robot ready by the tournament – a feat that is not new to this group.
This tournament is a major indicator of the skills that our club members bring to the table. The robotics club members may have been preparing their robots for weeks, working out bugs and improving hardware in order to compete stronger, but any instance of a problem can throw the work out the window. It is a testament to the team that their robots have been so successful as to achieve all of these awards in this season alone:
2 x Excellence Award
2 x Tournament Champions
2 x Tournament Finalists
1 x Design Award
1 x Robot Skills Champion
1 x Energy Award
Congratulations to our ACP Erie and Oakland teams, and we cannot wait to see what the teams have in store for the future!
