A Magical Way to Start Homecoming
As Homecoming week approaches, students are starting to prepare for this year’s theme: There’s No Place Like Home. To start off Homecoming week, this Friday, September 14th, StuGo is hosting a movie night on the varsity soccer field. The movie being showed is “The Wizard of Oz” with famous actress Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale.
“The Wizard of Oz”, based on the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, came out in 1939 and features Judy Garland as the orphan Dorothy raised by her aunt and uncle on their Kansas farm. Dorothy and her faithful dog, Toto, are whisked away to the magical land of Oz where they must travel the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, where Dorothy must find the Wizard. Along the way they meet a Scarecrow in need of a brain, a Tin Man without a heart, and the Cowardly Lion who wishes to be courageous. When they reach the Wizard, he tells them that they must bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West to receive his help. The four new friends embark on an adventure of a lifetime to battle the Wicked Witch of the West for her broom and Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers.
All students are encouraged to attend this Friday’s showing from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. of a classical fantasy motion picture of one of America’s greatest children novels. Students are reminded that admission is free but they must bring their school ID. Don’t forget to bring your Ruby Slippers and a bowl of popcorn to start off this year’s Homecoming week!
