Helping Our Environment
Each day I notice more trash being scattered about our campus. With summer storms just around the corner, I can’t help but wonder how much of the trash left on our fields will blow into a body of water, the streets, or even a beautiful park. Trash has been a sore subject for years: many people dislike the litter surrounding the streets but never take action to fix it. ACP-Erie’s Honor Biology class took a stance to help eliminate this burden.
Despite our custodians’ best efforts to encourage all students to pick up their trash, students still leave messes behind. Mrs. Nath’s Honor Biology class decided to step in and help our hard-working staff fix this issue. This past Earth day, Mrs. Nath and her Honors Biology class spent the afternoon picking up garbage on our fields and campus. Mrs. Math stated that the class viewed the west field areas and around the mobiles before and after lunch. What the class discovered was quite shocking.
With an almost clear campus before lunch and bins of garbage after lunch, the Honors Biology class concluded that our students are not doing their part to help our environment. By leaving trash on the ground with the mindset that someone will pick it up is greatly harming not only our environment but also our school.
Knights, the best possible thing you can do to help lift the burden of cleaning trash from both our staff and environment is to clean up after yourself. ACP has many strategically-placed trash cans that encourage students to throw their things away, so utilize them! We need to do our part to help the ecosystem.
