Every year, the Chandler Unified School District has a night where three individuals from each school in the district are recognized for their excellence in the Chandler education community. This night is called the Annual District Night of Recognition, and at this event, a volunteer, teacher, and student are honored and celebrated at the Chandler Center for the Arts. ACP has the pleasure of announcing that the 2018-2019 recipients of the District award are Mr. Norm Rumsey (teacher), Mrs. Ellen Boyd (parent volunteer), and Kaitlyn Starks (senior).

Once I found out about the winners of this year’s Annual district Night of Recognition, I interviewed Kaitlyn Starks, who is our school president, and talked to her about her thoughts on being recognized by district and what advice she can give for our study body to continue in achieving excellence:

Q: What was your reaction when you found out you were a recipient of the Annual District Night of Recognition award?

A: I was ecstatic. It’s such an honor to represent a school I love so much. I cannot thank ACP enough for everything the school has provided me. From mentorship of the teachers and staff to a superior educational experience, ACP has it all in my opinion.

Q: Are you nervous to attend the ceremony on February 6?

A: I’m a little nervous, but it’s great to know I’ll be accompanied by Mrs. Boyd, as she is such a kind woman who serves our school each day, and my freshman English teacher Mr. Rumsey, who I have gotten to know very well over these last four years.

Q: Do you have any words for the student body on how they can embody excellence and represent ACP?

A: It’s easy for us to get caught in the storm of homework, sports, clubs, and outside activities. However, I would encourage everyone to examine just how lucky we are to attend Arizona’s number one public school. We are provided with so much more than other schools, and as soon as we recognize and appreciate our position, I believe we can go so much further.

I have witnessed how extraordinary and wonderful the members of our school community are, and, throughout my many years at this school, I do not believe there is a moment where my pride in ACP diminished. I am incredibly proud of all the people who contribute in upholding the A+ reputation ACP Erie is known for and will continue to support my school, even far past my high school graduation day.

We congratulate Mr. Rumsey, Mrs. Ellen Boyd, and Kaitlyn Starks for their accomplishments. The ceremony for the recipients will be taking place the day of February 6th at 6:30 on the Chandler Center for the Arts stage. Students and families are encouraged to attend this night of recognition and support the ACP recipients for their accomplishments in ACP. Once again, we thank Mr. Rumsey, Mrs. Ellen Boyd, and Kaitlyn Starks for the dedication and hard work they deliver to our community and cannot wait to see them at the Annual District Night of Recognition.
