ACP’s Thanksgiving Food Drive

November is often a time for people to celebrate what makes that person happy in life.  A common activity to bring joy to one’s life is to give back to others in need.  Many people tend to celebrate others and give thanks on Thanksgiving, which falls on November 22 this year. If you’ve read this far, but are not sure what Thanksgiving is all about and how to help, then keep reading! The next paragraph will shed some much light on this.

We're Getting Ready for the Annual Holiday Food DriveThanksgiving is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of November. This day signifies the great harvest the Pilgrims experienced after a period of death and devastation after landing in what they thought was America. During this time, the Pilgrims and Indians came together in harmony, both teaching the other new lessons on farming and life in general. Although Thanksgiving is a holiday many people celebrate, lots of people do not have the ability to celebrate, due to financial or personal reasons. In fact, about 40 million people, including 12 million children, struggled with hunger in 2017. These stats do not take into account the Thanksgiving holiday; these are only based off of daily meals. If you’re anything like me, you want to help those who are struggling and want to help them be able to celebrate Thanksgiving, too.

If you’re looking to help out your community, you’re in luck! ACP is hosting another Battle of the Classes… a food drive! This food drive is being held October 31- November 14. The goal of this battle is for each grade to bring in different foods. All these donations will go to those in need. Here are the donations each grade should bring in:

8th grade- Canned Vegetables and Soup

9th grade- Boxed Stuffing

10th grade- Boxed Mashed Potatoes

11th grade- Gravy/ Cranberry Sauce

12th grade- Cake/ Cornbread Mix

Along with each grade, the faculty will also be donating money for turkeys. To further help those in need, STUGO will be contributing to our donations by matching the number of turkeys our faculty have accrued in donations. This means that if our faculty raises enough money for five turkeys, STUGO will also buy five turkeys, for a total of ten turkeys for our donation. This kind gesture is sure to help our community in a big way!

Knights, if your grade level donates the most amount of food, your grade will win a stripe on Thunder’s sword, so make sure you donate!
