ACP Knights’ Runner Devon Baggot
With the fall sports regular season nearing its end, it is time to reflect upon how the season went for the athletes and see how they did personally as well as the team itself. Our Cross Country team here on campus is a very solid team winning and placing near the top during meets and races. We interviewed Senior Devon Baggot to see how she did this season and how she thought the team itself did.
Q. How has the season been overall with the current circumstances surrounding sports in general?
A. Despite meets being cancelled and other limitations, this season has been a blast and really the highlight of my year. We spent months preparing for this season social-distance style, preparing us for the season and making this cross country team the best our school has ever had. Everyone’s hard work in practice has allowed us to be extremely successful in all of our meets.
Q. What is your favorite aspect of being apart of the Cross Country team here at ACP?
A. Training together to prepare for meets has been so much fun these last four years. We have been able to grow together and work together to improve our times. Working so hard with my friends in practice and seeing the results in the meets is so rewarding and is my favorite aspect about being a part of the team. Also, everyone is so encouraging and makes running several miles at a time really fun.
Q. What has been your favorite memory from Cross Country throughout the years you have been doing it?
A. There are too many! One of my favorites was our time at the Desert Twilight meet last year. It was so exciting to compete with people from across the nation, and nearly everyone got a personal record! The race was complete with fireworks and a DJ, and we all bonded over Exploding Kittens and other card games.
Q. Which meet/race was your most successful as well as the the teams most successful race?
A. My personal record was set at Desert Twilight last year, and one of the most successful races for the team this year was the Chandler City Meet. Our girls ran the first, second, and third fasted times and our boys ran the third, fourth, and fifth fastest times in school history! It was a great opportunity to run a personal record, while competing alongside the biggest and fastest teams in the city.
Q. What are some team traditions that the Cross Country team have that you guys do before meets or after meets?
A. The night before a meet, we would get together and have “pasta parties,” where we would meet at an athlete’s house and fuel up on pasta! Sadly, we were unable to do this this year, but we have still been able to bond over bagels and sandwiches after hard runs.
Q. If you could be any kind of tree what kind of tree would you like to be?
A. I would definitely be a maple tree. Autumn is my favorite season and I love all of the vibrant colors.
We can clearly see the determination that our Knights’ Cross Country team has when it comes to performing at big meets or the effort they put forth together. Stay safe Knights, and remember to strive for the impossible and be extraordinary!
