Virtual Stem Program for the Ladies!

Interested in the wide field of science? Want to invent the coolest gadgets to help others find new discoveries? Well, you’re in luck! Intel is hosting it’s 13th Annual Girl’s in Stem Day, an annual field trip to help young women, from grades 8-12, find their passion in science, technology, math, and engineering.

According to Intel’s studies(see top link at the end), female and male makers, who were surveyed, face similar challenges in pursuing their passion for inventing, such as lack of money, lack of information, and lack of access to tools and materials. But females experience more difficult obstacles when it comes to pursuing inventing and making.  Many women don’t have the education and guidance needed to encourage them to innovate. “One of six women were excluded because they were a woman or because it is inappropriate in their culture for girls and women to be able to innovate. And in many cases, some women feel unsafe and scared to go to maker activities.”(Intel) It is imperative that this generation get to experience and be able to have such an opportunity to be accepted for being interested in innovation. This could motivate other young girls from different countries to want to invent and experiment as well.

Though, because of the situation the world is in right now, things will be done a little differently, but don’t let that stop you from diving head first into your passion. Just like the years before, Intel will work toward making sure that young girls can interact virtually with hands-on engineering activities and meeting female professionals. Intel is giving the opportunity for girls to experience the various career paths and working with technology, so it’s important to grab that chance while you still can. Unfortunately, registration has closed on September 4, 2020 but it’s good to keep in mind of next year’s event. Take care, Knights!
