Senior Saar Zutshi Chosen for the Elite Academic Team
The National Football Foundation, Valley of the Sun Chapter annually appoints seniors who have had marvelous football careers in school and on the field. Out of 33 players in all of Arizona, one of our very own, Saar Zutshi, was nominated for the Elite Academic Team, which is a distinguished honor funded and promoted by the Fiesta Bowl Charities. Saar will be honored at the 39th Annual Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet in April, along with the other players who were handpicked for this distinction.
I asked Saar, who on Tuesday signed to Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, for a quick interview. He cheerily agreed:
Q: How did you feel when you found out that you were selected for the Elite Academic Team?
A: It was exciting and very humbling to be considered part of such a great group of student-athletes.
Q: How did you celebrate your success?
A: I went to the gym and had a victory workout.
Q: What does this award mean to you?
A: It’s the icing on the cake capping off an awesome high school football journey.
Q: Are you planning on playing football in college? Why or why not?
A: Yes, I will be playing at Case Western Reserve University. Football has become a part of life, and I love playing. I just wanted to continue to compete for championships at the next level.
Q: How long have you been playing football? What originally made you want to play?
A: I have been playing for eight years. I got into football when my Pee Wee soccer coach decided to start coaching flag football. After having watched football on TV with my dad, I agreed to make the transition as well. In fourth grade, I started playing tackle football, and I haven’t looked back since.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about the sport?
A: I enjoy strategizing and game planning and putting that together with physicality. There is no other sport like it.
Thank you to Saar for taking the time to tell about his prestigious honor! ACP wishes you the best in your future endeavors!
