Last week, students from ACP’s Student Government attended the AASC State Conference in Sierra Vista at Buena High School. Schools from Flagstaff, Yuma, Camp Verde, Deer Valley, Gilbert, Glendale, Chandler, Phoenix and Tucson all gathered at the campus, with the conference consisting of 2000+ individuals. From ACP, Ahlias Jones, Miranda Romero, Hayden Cristofano, Ava Berry, Tarryn Weigand, Kayden Martinez, Jennyfer Park, Hunter Bickes, Aliyah Jones, Vanessa Ghosn, Ashley Brady, and Carrie Chen represented our school.

I interviewed Miranda Romero to convey her thoughts on this conference being the last one she’s attending in high school and StuGo itself.

Q: What is the purpose of the conference?

A: AASC State allows Student Government members to make connections, find new ideas to bring back to our school, and develop leadership skills and memories that last a lifetime.

Q: How well did you guys perform this year?

A: We received four awards this year- Gold level in donations to the State Charity, Bronze in Volunteer Hours, Advisor of the Year nominee for Mrs. Michaelson, and The Outstanding Council of Distinction award for the second year in a row!

Q: What does being in Student Government mean to you?

A: Student Government and AASC mean the world to me! I would recommend it to anyone who’s looking to better themselves and trying to seek a way to improve their connections, as well as their leadership skills. As a senior, AASC is like a second home to me, and it is incredible to leave a legacy at this school by being the first delegate from ACP after joining in 2018 to now.

Q: What are your thoughts on this being the last one you’re attending?

A: I’d say it’s bitter sweet; as a senior there’s no right way to say goodbye, but it’s amazing to get to witness the underclassmen go through the same journey I did.

StuGo’s constant hard work and dedication is the reason why our school is the way it is today. Their constant efforts in putting all the school dances and fundraisers together have always played a huge role for the better of our school. All in all, congratulations StuGo; we know you guys are going to kill it next year at AASC State 2021 at North High School!
