ACP Wrestling Takes Down the Competition
Wrestling’s First Meet of the Season
On Monday, December 2nd, ACP’s Wrestling team participated in its first meet of the season, a long-awaited day for many wrestlers. They defeated opponents from three other schools and secured a first place win for ACP-Erie! The other schools at the meet were Tempe Preparatory Academy, San Tan Foothills High School, and Alchesay High School. Weeks of preparation definitely paid off for ACP’s wrestlers at this first meet.
To learn a little more about the win and what it’s like to be a part of ACP’s Wrestling team, I interviewed senior Logan Sandlin:
Q1: How long have you been wrestling?
A1: I have been wrestling for four years.
Q2: Are you involved in any other sports?
A2: I tried out swimming and cross country. I’m going to try track as well this year.
Q3: What got you into wrestling?
A3: I thought I wanted to do football once the new team started, and Coach Lindstrom recommended that I try wrestling to prepare for football. I thought that I might as well go to the meeting for anyone who was interested. When I got there, Coach Huffman gave his annual wrestling speech, which inspired me and made me want to wrestle. I ended up loving it so much that when football season came around, I stuck with wrestling and made it my passion for the next three years.
Q4: What is your favorite part of being on ACP’s wrestling team?
A4: Coach Huffman.
Q5: What is the biggest challenge of wrestling?
A5: The biggest challenge is overcoming the mental blockade that keeps you from pushing yourself to the max.
Q6: How did you and the rest of the team prepare for this meet?
A6: We’ve been preparing since last season ended. Before school ended we wrestled, over the summer we wrestled, and all the way up to this meet we wrestled. We’ve all spent an enormous amount of time and hard work preparing for season, and now it’s really begun.
Q7: What are you most looking forward to this season?
A7: I’m looking forward to the state tournament and some great bonding time with the fellas.
The Wrestling team’s win at this first meet is sure to be just the beginning of an extraordinary season! Next up, the team will be competing at the Wickenburg Invitational. This meet will be at Wickenburg High School on December 6th and 7th. Congrats to the Wrestling team members for winning their first meet, and best wishes for them at the Wickenburg meet!
