UNICEF’s Trick-or-Treat Fundraiser for Child Welfare
This Halloween season, ACP’s UNICEF club is sponsoring the annual Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF fundraising program. UNICEF, or the United Nations Children’s Fund, seeks to raise money to help children around the world gain access to basic healthcare needs, education, and emergency relief. The nationwide Trick-or-Treat fundraiser is an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of children who lack key resources and need additional financial support. This year’s campaign will be running from September 1, 2019 to October 31, 2019.

History of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF
Founded in 1950, Trick-or Treat for UNICEF was originally meant to help children who were negatively impacted by World War II. The movement began in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when Clyde Allison and his wife Mary Emma Allison decided to raise funds for children living in poverty in the United States. Over time, the program adopted the more general purpose of improving child welfare on a global scale. Traditionally, kids across the nation have contributed to the program by going door-to-door on Halloween and collecting spare change.
How You Can Help
Here’s some more information about how you can donate to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Remember that every donation counts!
Some kids participate in the UNICEF tradition of collecting money while trick-or-treating.
This week, students can visit the UNICEF booth in the courtyard before school to make a donation. On Halloween, students are encouraged to continue the UNICEF tradition of asking for spare change while trick-or-treating.
As well, if you would like to donate online, visit the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF web page: https://secure.unicefusa.org/donate/make-your-trick-or-treat-unicef-donation-online/16042. The donation is tax-deductible, and 89% of your contribution will go directly toward helping kids in need. To donate over the phone, call 800-FOR-KIDS, and follow the verbal instructions. You could also make a contribution through the mail, as detailed on the UNICEF donation homepage.
