CUSD Journal, STEM Visions
Hey Knights, Mrs. Rachna Nath, one of our phenomenal teachers from the science department, has given an incredible opportunity for students to publish their work on the CUSD Journal, STEM Vision. I asked her some questions to further explain what this opportunity was about.
Q: What is the CUSD Journal, STEM Visions?
A: STEM VISIONS is a one-of-a-kind journal, which is a collection of amazing science projects of high school students within our school district.
Q: Are these journals eligible to any students or is it selection-based only?
A: Eligibility of students who can submit their work for publication are to be a student in high school, someone who did credible and interesting work on their science fair projects, or got an award as a result of their commitment to their project. Innovative ideas pertaining to persisting problems inĀ society or a project, showing extensive research on deliberation are also some of the projects that can be considered for publication. Ultimately, the projects chosen by the committee will be the journal to be published.
Q: What would the students publish?
A: The students will publish their science fair projects that they did that year.
Q: Are students competing in a competition? If so, are there rounds?
A: They are competing for selection for publishing. There are no rounds but only the best projects will be chosen for publication; just a submission doesn’t grantee a publication.
Q: What are some benefits of students publishing their work?
A: The students will get an official publication of their work, which is very rare to be given in high school and is something that gives them credibility about knowing and performing scientific research. This will take them incredible ways into their research fields and will also open up avenues for future research at different universities after graduation and strengthen their application for different colleges while in high school.
What an incredible opportunity Mrs. Nath has granted for students to publish their amazing projects and have the chance to be recognized even more. Good luck to anyone who is participating and we’ll stay tuned for the results!
