2017 Back to School Party is a Rain-Less Success
Knights of all ages had a wonderful time at this year’s pool party.
Perhaps the most significant event at the 2017 Back To School Potluck and Pool Party was actually an event that did not occur–at least, not until the very end.
“You know, it hasn’t rained” were the words uttered by junior Logan Knapik when asked about his favorite part of last Friday’s pool party. Logan summed up the views of most students I talked to at the event, all rejoicing that pool party went on for more than one hour this year. With about 10 minutes left in the evening lightning finally came along to ruin our fun under the stars, but not before several memories were made.
The pool party, held annually at Hamilton Aquatic Center, has been a fan favorite ever since its inception several years ago. The diving board was one of the most popular attractions; many students, such as 7th grader Lucas, practiced traditional front-flips, while a few pioneering individuals such as sophomores Brandon Kilde and Jerrad Riley invented new “dab-flipping” techniques. Others, like myself, enjoyed watching from the sideline as bodies flailed through the air.
Other enjoyable features of the fiesta included the waterslide, lazy river, and, of course, the food. Every year the students come up big time with delicious food, although anyone on a health kick might want to stay away. An absolutely gigantic thank-you must be given to the 15 or so parent volunteers at the event, giving up their Friday nights to pass out food to the students. Regarding the parents, senior Margaret Krenke said, “Oh my gosh, the parents we have at this school are amazing, they do so much. Thank you for all your help.”
Seniors such as Amanda Li were “a little nostalgic” to see their final pool party as a Knight come and go, but were relieved to not have their night cut short by weather.
Sadly, at least one senior left disappointed. Here’s Yooro Han on how he was feeling after his last pool party:
“I’m a little sad because I told myself I was gonna work out last year to get that summer body, you know, but didn’t work out so… next year.”
Unfortunately, Yooro declined our request to include a photo of the “summer body” in the article.
Whether the party was a 7th grader’s first experience or a senior’s final hurrah, the 2017 Back to School Pool Party was one to be remembered. Our fearless leader Mr. Bickes summed up the night perfectly:
“It is a wet and wild adventure that everyone should experience once in their lifetime! Thanks to the Booster Club for putting this together for us and for all the students coming out and having a good time.”
Well said, Mr. B.
