ACP Earns a $5,000 Grant

Throughout ACP history, we have made leaps and bounds on our campus as a whole. From developing brand new clubs to getting involved with our off-campus community, ACP has created a lasting impression. One of these recent great accomplishments can be found within our very own Biophysics club.

Sponsored by Mrs. Nath, ACP’s Honor Biology and Human Biology Teacher, the Biophysics club recently made ACP history by being awarded a $5,000 Grant! This grant goes toward creating a “pipeline” from ASU to ACP for all Biophysics club members. They will be introduced to high-tech computers and software systems high schools in the US had previously not had any connection with. Also, this grant helps our community as a whole, for ACP’s new connection with ASU is a great way for our students to earn internships with ASU and find more opportunities to advance their knowledge before college.

In a recent interview with Mrs. Nath, she expressed the importance of the grant as well as how this gracious money will benefit our school. All interview questions are listed below:

Q1: With the recent grant of $5,000 awarded to ACP, can you further explain what our students will be doing at ASU with regard to students developing computer modules of molecules?

A1: My students in Biophysics club will be building biological modules using the supercomputer at ASU and access programs and modeling instructions that was previously not accessible to any high school students in US.

Q2: What do you hope will occur with the development of a biophysics chapter at ACP?

A2: The purpose is to make a pipeline of Biophysics students to ASU and help motivate the students to create and be innovative in their work.

Q3: In an email from Mrs. Patterson, she wrote that you were working with Dr. Abhishek Singharoy on creating a biophysics chapter at ACP. With regard to this relationship, how will these connections to ASU benefit the students at ACP?

A3: The collaboration will bring in not just contacts and exposure to ACP students but will also open up research and internship opportunists to the student sin the Biophysics club. Networking is a big deal, and this opportunity might also bring in scholarships and opportunities to compete at the national level for competitions and research organizations.

Q4: Is there anything you want our students to know about this program?

A4: The sooner they get involved, the better their chances are to be seen in the bigger forum of universities and schools that might result in  internships and grant opportunities in the future.

This grant is an exciting new advancement in ACP history. If you have any further questions about our Biophysics club or want to join, contact Mrs. Nath.
