Varsity Swim Sends Seniors Off With a Splash of Fun
On October 25th, ACP’s Varsity swim team celebrated their seniors in style. Immediately following the traditional inter-squad meet, our prestigious senior swimmers joined their parents in a commemoration of the individual characters that helped to shape our swim team. The entire list of senior swimmers is as follows: Caroline Whitesel, Ryan Redmond, Nolan Murphy, Kashish Mewani, Kelsie Pisors, Cole Smith, Melanie Hass, and Tiana Lam. Each of these highly esteemed swimmers has not only fostered an environment of peace and welcoming on the team, but pushed the group toward success. The 2018 Varsity team saw three of our senior captains,: Caroline, Nolan, and Melanie working their hardest not only for themselves but for their team. Whether it be creating team bonding activities and fun exercises for the team, or pushing our swimmers to state-qualifying times, the seniors have provided an undeniable benefit to the team.
The senior night was preceded by the thrilling inter-squad meet, which set two halves of the powerful team against each other. Leaders of each team, the majority of which being seniors, pushed our swimmers to the wall in a show of stern competition and relaxed entertainment. The announcer, Jaime Komarnisky, not only presented the next event or heat, but provided color commentary throughout the entire meet. While parents cheered for their children, and fellow swimmers cheered on their teammates, the entire team created an environment of community throughout the entire night. The most exciting events included an eight person t-shirt relay, a 200 meter ‘wacky relay’, and the intense and stalemated eight person rock-paper-scissors relay, with both the silver and purple teams keeping the score in dead heat. In the most tense moments of the meet, it was clear that our team was more than just a group of swimmers; it was a community, a family, and a supporting ensemble. Our ACP swim seniors could not be more proud of their team, and the team couldn’t be more proud of the seniors. Each senior has a different plan for their future, and each is striving for great things, but on that night, they were one. We can’t wait to see what these amazing swimmers have waiting next in their lives!
