Learning About Ms. Frasier

Learning+About+Ms.+Frasier

After only three weeks of schools, ACP students are still seeing the unfamiliar faces of new teachers. Amid them is Ms. Sarah Jo Frasier. Ms. Frasier (not to be confused with Mr. Fraser), is our new Honors Social Studies 8 and Honors World History & Geography teacher. Her portable classroom is a cozy little room with fairy lights and hanging decoration papers- it breathes history.

The day I interviewed Ms. Frasier, August 8th, turned out to be her birthday. After wishing her a happy birthday, she began to tell me about her new career at ACP.

Q: Why did you decide to become a teacher?

A: I moved around my whole life, and I had some really good teachers and some really no- so good teachers, and I wanted to be there for those kids that were kind of like me, that often times switched schools a lot, and so I wanted to be one of the good ones.

Q: Of all subjects, why’d you choose history?

A: I love history…um, its really good in terms of being able to argue your way out a lot of things and kinda seeing how the world works.

Q: What university did you attend?

A: Arizona State. I got my Bachelors and my Masters from there.

Q: Are you from Arizona?

A: No, my dad is from Arizona, so that’s how we ended up back here, but I am a military brat.  Let’s see…I went to nine elementary schools, two junior highs, and three high schools.  Total, I think I lived in eleven states.

Q: What’s your favorites historical event to teach?

A: The Cold War.

Q: What made you come to ACP?

A: I heard lots of really good things about this school and obviously, the kids as well, and being able to move to the Chandler District has always been a big goal of mine.

Q: If you could spend the day with any historical character, who would it be?

A: Probably JFK.

As the bell rang and the first passing period of the day began, Ms. Frasier began to get ready for her first class. Besides history, she also does cheer in the mornings. Three weeks in and Ms. Frasier already seems to be making history. ACP wishes you a wonderful school year and many more to come!
