Tara Taylor – A Year’s Worth of Stories… And Then Some More

My special delivery had finally arrived. You can order anything these days, even a time machine kit. Don’t get too excited. I can’t travel to the future and know what movies come out and if they’re decent or not. However, reliving the past is a piece of cake. This hand-held device can bring me back to moments I didn’t know I wanted to remember. Let’s take it out for a quick spin, shall we? After activating the starting sequence, nostalgia takes over, directing me to various events. Glimpses of soccer, volleyball, and football games flashed before my eyes before I’m lead to dances at Prom and Morp. Speeding through each month of the school year, I can observe clubs I didn’t even know existed! Maybe I could join one of them next year, or start my own club! If only I knew what kind of club that would be. Woops! We have a bit of a situation here. Turns out there’s a time limit, and I’m out of time for now. The events occurring before my eyes start to fade out, and I’m jolted back to reality. Back in my chair in class, I notice everyone else leaving. Looks like there’s one more assembly.

I weaved my way through the crowd one last time – for the school year at least. The gym was humming with the usual excitement that accompanies an assembly. Sitting down next to my friends, I admired the cover of the book in my hands. After a brief speech from our principle, we were allowed to roam around the gym with these books, asking for our friends to sign them. Of course you know I’m talking about the yearbook. This magical book preserves the numerous memories of the school year… along with inside jokes and nicknames that are added by the fellow students we have spent the past year with. Students called out each other’s names, scrambled for pens and pencils, and braced the book against their legs as they wrote their messages. Friends were told to have a great summer and…  Eventually the last bell of the day rang and a handful of students, myself included, rushed to end the writing they were working on. We had finished our signed farewells, but I soon realized there was one more I needed to write.

This one.

It’s definitely something special to recreate experiences in a different light. Turning memories into fun adventures and sharing them with others is an activity I will never get bored of. Life is full of mini expeditions and challenging fights. Life is full of amazing views and lovely music. You just need to open your eyes and look. After a year of finding summer treasure and monsters under beds, I know there are more stories out there that even I cannot imagine. That’s where you come in. We all have our own unique stories. Each and every one of them deserves as much attention as the next. So grab your pen, pencil, or keyboard. It’s time for you to write. Share your stories. Make friends, smile and laugh at cheesy drawings. Turn something boring into a game. Enjoy the little things in your life, and write.
