Wrestling Through Sectionals

Wrestling+Through+Sectionals

The on-going debate between students seems to be all about sports. “My sport is harder than yours!” “Oh yeah? Well, I have to practice for three hours every day!”. It’s a debate as old as time; one with no clear winner. ACP is home to many sports, some more popular than others. Wrestling isn’t as well known on our campus as our soccer or football team are; however, the ACP Wrestling team is making ACP history.

Korosh Eshani, a current senior at ACP, explained that wrestling is an individual sport, one where you can’t rely on teammates for help. Korosh has been wrestling for four years and placed second at sectionals, earning him a spot at this year’s state competition. In an interview, he expressed how he was annoyed at placing second, for he was looking to improve from last year’s sectionals, where he also placed second. He’s very determined to walk away with a state title, and he is confident the team as a whole will walk away in the top 10 teams, out of over 40 total teams competing. His advice to future wrestlers is: “Don’t be afraid to wear the singlet. No one cares what you look like.” He continued by saying, “Keep wrestling the best guy in the room… you’ll eventually reach his skill level…”. His last piece of advice was plain and simple: “Keep your head up.”

Korosh isn’t the only wrestler going to state. The sectional champions: Yusuf Halik (12), Hadi Mazboudi (12), and Kellen Gibson (9), who will be moving on to state along with, Jad Mazboudi (10), who placed second at sectionals, Davoren Bishop (12) and Korosh Eshani (12), who also took second at sectionals, and Sebastian Rochin (9), who placed fourth at sectionals. As a whole, the ACP Wrestlers have proved their determination and discipline by sending seven of their wrestlers to compete at the state tournament this weekend.
