Wish Upon a Star…
“When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true”. Make-a-Wish strives to make dreams a reality for the children who need it most. It is an organization officially founded by Linda Pauling and Paul Shankwitz, parents of a seven-year-old boy who died from Leukemia, only after being granted his three wishes: to ride in a hot air balloon, become a firefighter, and go to Disneyland. His parents were determined to bring awareness to their son’s story and to help families with children suffering form life-threatening medical conditions. Make-A-Wish now grants a child’s wish every 34 minutes, according to wish.org, the official Make-A-Wish website. These wishes range from meeting a princess at Disneyland, to being a pilot, to battling pirates. When helping a child decide one a wish, the organization uses five sentence starters: I wish to be, I wish to give, I wish to go, I wish to have, and I wish to meet. Previous stories form children who were involved with the Make-A-Wish foundation can be found on their website.
Make-A-Wish actively seeks donations to make the wishes come true. ACP-Erie is now raising money for this foundation. Today, Monday December 4, we are linking with Chick-Fil-A located at 2550 W Chandler Blvd, 85224; when you spend money at Chick-Fil-A and tell the cashier you are with ACP, 20% of the proceeds will go directly to Make-A-Wish. However, today is not the only day to help the foundation! On Wednesday, December 6 a Chipotle Dinner Night is being held at the Chipotle on Chandler Blvd, where 50% of the proceeds will go directly to Make-A-Wish when you tell the cashier you are with ACP-Erie.
Not only is ACP having special dinner nights for Make-A-Wish, but the money raised from our annual Penny War, a war between grades to see who can raise the most points by donating, will go to Make-A-Wish to support the dreams of the children with life-threatening medical conditions. There will be a prize for the grade who earns the most points. Remember to donate for a good cause!
