Adventure At The Zoo

After a school-wide lesson on reading complex charts and graphs, we shuffled onto the school buses that waited for us in front of the school. Gazing out the window with my headphones on, blasting music into my ears, I was excited for the adventure ahead. We were going to the Phoenix Zoo. A school-wide field trip, organized by Stugo, was a wonderful thing to do before we took a break for Thanksgiving. When we arrived, we unloaded from our buses and clustered around the entrance. I wove my way through the crowd to find my friends before we walked into the zoo together. We decided to follow the path and see whatever it lead us to. First, we stopped at a small exhibit with snakes, and further down the path we saw a variety of birds including a Barn Owl and a parrot. Around a corner, we noticed a small jeep next to the path. Naturally, we saw this as the perfect spot for a group photo.

In order to make sure we had enough energy for all the walking we were going to do, we stopped at a concessions stand. My friend and I shared a “small” bag of popcorn; it lasted us the entire trip. Practicing our talent of eating and walking at the same time, we continued along the path toward the camel rides and zebras. Eventually, we arrived at the giraffe exhibit where we saw a baby giraffe with its mom.

Around two fifteen or two thirty, we came across a kid area with a clubhouse and a “river”. Climbing into the clubhouse, we soon discovered the space inside was smaller than we hoped. Only one of us could go up on the loft at a time, but that didn’t stop us from trying to fit at least one more up there. When we finished goofing around in the clubhouse, we squeezed out of the other door and made our way to the “river”. While there was a bridge to cross over it, we choose to go the more exciting route; small logs standing individually in the water. Dramatically hopping across the logs as if we were crossing a raging river, we made it to the other side. We did not have a lot of time left, so we continued on toward the exit to meet up with our bus groups again.

Stugo did an amazing job setting up this school-wide field trip to the zoo. Students were able to see and learn about a variety of animals, while spending time with their friends. The trip was a wonderful opportunity to make some fun memories.
