Even though it feels as if November just started, December is officially here, along with colder weather and the beloved holiday season. Along with the holiday traditions, such as the Tumbleweed Tree Lighting, Phoenix offers multiple events to the public. These events include upcoming shows and performances, events for younger children and the family, and festivals for all ages.

ZooLights, which has been open at the Phoenix Zoo since November 22, is a tradition which involves millions of lights and “hundreds of sparkling displays”. This event lasts until January 14, and this event open  5:30- 10:30 nightly. Tickets cost between $1.95 and $17.95.

The Holiday Ice rink, hosted by CitySkate, is open to the public from November 27 to January 7 for $15 a ticket. The Rink is open daily and is located at 1 E. Washington St. Phoenix, AZ.

The Polar Express is an adventure for all ages. Hosted by the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, it allows children, adults, and teens to embark on a magical two-hour journey on November 29 – December 4, December 6 – December 11, December 13 – December 24, December 26 – December 30, and January 4 – January 6. Tickets range from $41- $53 for an adult and $31-$43 for a child under 15. Prices do rise on Christmas Eve.

If you are more interested in the arts, Tempe hosts a Fall Festival of Arts on Mill Ave and University Drive from December 1- December 3. Tickets are free and the event lasts from 10 am to 5:30 pm.

On December 2, Downtown Chandler has an annual tradition of a holiday parade and making a Christmas Tree out of Tumbleweed. Admission is free and for all ages and it lasts from 4:30 to 9:30 pm.

Hundreds of lanterns will light the sky December 8 – December 10, December 15 – December 17, December 19 – December 23, and December 26 – December 30 at the Las Noches de las Luminarias festival. Adult tickets cost $30 while children are $12.50. It is held at the Desert Botanical Garden from 5:30- 9:30 pm. This event is fun for all ages and makes lasting memories.

On December 8-24, Ballet Arizona will present “The Nutcracker” at the Phoenix Symphony Hall with tickets ranging in price from $47 to $169. The price depends on the seat chosen and how close the seat is to the stage.

Finally, Phoenix Symphony will host a New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31 at the Phoenix Symphony Hall. Prices range from $39.00 to $115.00, depending on the seat’s proximity to the stage.

With finals in the next few weeks, going to one of these events with friends or family is a great way to relax before the stress of finals.
