2017-18 Girls Basketball Preview
What should be expected from the Lady Knights varsity basketball team in 2017-18?
2016-17 Review
The Lady Knights are coming off a strong season last year, where they went 10-12 overall with a 7-5 record in section games. The season was one marked by many big peaks and valleys; every game played was decided by a margin of at least eight points.
“Starting Fresh”
When I talked to senior captain Rebecca Elting, one of the phrases which kept coming up was “starting fresh.” This year’s roster looks completely different from last season, with Rebecca, Kimberly Rumsey, Sam Owusi-Antwi, and Rekha Wijesuriya being the only players who are still on the Varsity team. Captain Kimberly Rumsey commented that “our weakness would be that we haven’t had time to connect fully and have that team bond.” With a roster that is almost entirely new, it may take a few games for ACP to get the kinks worked out. That leads me perfectly into my next header, which is…
“Expect Progress”
The girls who were on the team last year are already seeing a big jump in their game this season, and Rebecca expects that as the year progresses, the Lady Knights will be an immensely improved team. Sure, they may not end up with an outstanding win-loss record, but the team that plays in the final game against Leading Edge on January 31 will be very different from the team who played Casa Grande last Friday.
