The Leadership Scholarship Program (LSP) began at Arizona State University in 1977 under the leadership of Dr. Christine K. Wilkinson, Senior Vice President and Secretary of ASU. For this prestigious scholarship, 25 students are selected annually to participate in the four-year program, offering students the opportunity to grow and learn crucial leadership skills, all while giving back to our community. These future leaders enroll in leadership classes, discuss with mentors, take leadership roles in student organizations at the university, participate in annual service projects, and connect with peers, faculty members, staff and LSP alumni, cultivating long-lasting connections. The program provides students with extensive preparation for effective leadership, helping them learn skills that aid them in the workforce as well as their personal lives.
Senior and Student Body Vice President, Isabella Small, was offered the opportunity to participate in the LSP, Leadership Scholarship Program. The program provides academic credit for a leadership course as it creates a community of leaders with access to mentors and alumni. When I asked Isabella how being Student Body Vice President influenced her performance as a leader and aided her in LSP, she expressed, “Being a part of Student Government has made me the leader I am today. I notice myself seeking to take initiative, look for ways to contribute, and help foster a more spirited, positive community.” Her position in Student Government has significantly impacted her skills and knowledge as a leader, helping her better understand the importance of participating in the LSP.
The selection process of the program is highly competitive, selecting only one student from each high school to be considered for the scholarship. Isabella’s remarkable experience as a leader as well as her position as Student Body Vice President made her an excellent candidate for the scholarship. Congratulations, Isabella, for all of your hard work and dedication to this opportunity. Thank you for being a great example of leadership and commitment to the entire ACP family. Go Knights!
