Thanksgiving is here, and there is so much to be thankful for! If you want to get out of the house and have extra fun this Thanksgiving weekend, here’s a few events that are taking place.

Glendale hosts its holiday event, Glendale Glitters, at 58th and Glendale Avenue. This wonderful weekend of the 24th and 25th will surely light up your Thanksgiving experience. About a million lights strewn across 16 blocks of Glendale are lit nightly from 6pm until 10pm for your enjoyment.

On November 24, for about an hour,  more than 60 floats parade through the streets at Fountain Hills. Fancy cars, motorcycles, dance groups, and marching bands join these fabulous floats in dancing through the streets. This spectacle takes place at 9 a.m. and is free.

The Phoenix Zoo displays dozens of animal-themed lights for its annual  Zoo Lights event. Around 3.8 million lights form roughly 700 animal light sculptures are scattered along a path that leads to the lake. At the lake, more lights dance to the tunes of holiday songs and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in the marvelous “Music In Motion” show.

Downtown Phoenix hosts a Turkey Trot on Thursday, November 23rd. Starting in Wesley Bolin Plaza, participants choose to run in either 5K or 10K routes, and can take a few breaks at Pumpkin Pie and Cranberry Course aid stations. Younger participants can test their own abilities in the 1-mile Gobbler Dash, or the Tot Trot.

The race schedule is as follows:

6:00am – 7:30am:  Race-day registration

7:30am:  1-mile Gobbler Dash starts (parents and kids 12 and under)

8:00am:  10K starts

8:30am:  5K starts

9:30am:  Tot Trot

Mesa hosts its own Turkey Trot at Red Mountain Park, 7745 E Brown Rd, Mesa, AZ. Events include a 10K run at 9:00 AM, a 5K run at 8:10 AM, as well as a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk at 8:00 AM.
