Speech and Debate
The ACP Speech and Debate Team has had an outstanding year, competing at various tournaments and bringing home multiple awards. The team members have honed their skills in public speaking, critical thinking, argumentation, and have represented the school with distinction.
The team had a strong showing at the Scorpion Spectacular tournament, with several members advancing to the final rounds.
Individual team members also shined brightly, earning recognition for their wonderful performances at the tournament. The team’s dedication and passion for the subject are reflected in their achievements. They have displayed great commitment to the team and the subject, putting in countless hours of practice and research.
I was able to talk to a few members on the team, and here’s what they had to say. Nina Sreeprasad (12)
who competed in Extemp and Impromptu at the Scorpion Spectacular tournament shared that the tournament was not only fun, but also opened up her eyes to “the growth that was happening in the background within the team, especially the novices!” Anagha Gupta (9) competed in Public Forum. She told me that her favorite part of the Speech and Debate team is the culture. The team is like one big family; people can talk to each other comfortably. Lastly, I talked to Noor Virk (9), and she felt she was able to improve her speaking and debating skills tremendously over the course of the Scorpion Spectacular tournament.
The Speech and Debate Team is not only about winning competitions, it also helps students develop critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills, which will serve them well in their future careers and life. The team is led by a dedicated coach, Mr. Rumsey, who nurtures the talents of each team member and encourages them to reach their full potential.
Congratulations to everyone on the Speech and Debate team, and don’t forget to strive for the impossible and be extraordinary!
