Getting Ready for Prom 2022
Finally, the talk about Prom has been official! Last Thursday, before our three-day-weekend, StuGO revealed this year’s Prom: A Tale As Old as Time. This theme is very classy as it is a reference to one of the most popular Disney movies, Beauty and the Beast. This year’s Prom is very special because in past years, due to the small population at our school, every grade could go to Prom. However, this year, Prom will be like many other high schools-exclusive to juniors and seniors! The dance is on May 14th, from 8 P.M. to 11 P.M., at The Croft Downtown, with tickets being $50 with an activity card, $60 without an activity card, and $70 at the door.
Prom is such an important part of the school year, specifically for the upperclassmen of course, because it symbolizes the end of the school year, and essentially a coming-of-age party for high school students, as our beloved seniors graduate and the juniors take their spot as the Class of 2023. After AP exams, finals, and other standardized testing, a night out with your friends is a great way to celebrate and give yourself a pat-on-the-back for all the effort you put in during the school year. Ranging back to the mid-1800’s, Prom, short for promenade, was known as “the formal, introductory parading of guests at a party”, and was celebrated in universities and colleges in the Northeast at the time to promote social etiquette and manners in each year’s graduating class. Of course, this tradition has evolved into high schools and became more of a casual and laid-back event compared to its origin because the transition from high school to college can be exciting, scary, and overall, a simply thrilling experience.
To tell a long story short, if you are either a junior or senior, and you want to reward yourself for a school year’s worth of dedication to your academic career, consider buying a Prom ticket and hanging out with your friends, and maybe you’ll get to learn a bit more about yourself by letting your wild side out!
