Addie Grainger and the AIA Dive Championship
One of our very own Knights have become the very first ACP student to win an individual state championship. Sophomore Addie Grainger competed at the AIA Dive Championship and got the top medal and stood proudly at the awards podium to represent ACP High School. She will soon have her picture in the ACP individual state future Hall Of Champions. She has done a great job and everybody at ACP supports and is very proud of her. We thought Addie did so well and deserved to have some recognition for her amazing accomplishment, so I interviewed her about her experience.
Q: How does it feel to be the first athlete to win an individual state championship from ACP? Did you ever think you would get this far?
A: It’s exciting and it feels amazing, I thought there was a possibility that I could win but didn’t know for sure, and I never thought I could win something this big.
Q: How old were you when you started diving? What made you want to start this sport?
A: I started diving when I was 14 and I began after quitting cheer. What made me want to start diving was it looked cool and was super close to cheer and gymnastics.
Q: What are some of your other passions and hobbies? What are things you enjoy doing in your free time?
A: I really like hiking, surfing, and pretty much most of the things relating to being outdoors. But I also really enjoy baking.
Q: Are you thinking about doing swim in dive as a career or thinking about joining a team in college, if you are going?
A: Yes I am thinking of pursuing it throughout college and possibly as a career, but I haven’t thought that far ahead.
Q: What motivates you to keep trying and to pursue this passion of yours even when things get tough?
A: What motivates me is the thought of getting better and seeing the progress of new dives.
ACP has so many amazing athletes with many accomplishments who are all very appreciated. Addie Grainger is just one of the many talented people attending our school. Winning a championship is such an astounding achievement, and I am especially stunned and wowed because I know I could never do something like that. All the ACP Knights are doing an amazing job every day, and we hope to make sure they get recognition. Keep pushing on, Knights!
