The holidays are now here, and you know what that means: watching Christmas movies while stuffing yourself with Christmas cookies along with some hot chocolate. If you don’t know which movies to watch this season, here’s a list of seven holiday movies ranked as “the best of all time.”

“The Polar Express” captures the magic of motion capture through excitement and cheer. In this movie, a young boy takes a magical train ride to the North Pole and makes amazing friends along the way. In the beginning of the film, he is skeptical about the existence of Santa Claus, but the journey leads him to believe the true spirit of Christmas. “The Polar Express” has been nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for its amazing editing and soundtrack.

2. The Night Before Christmas

Even though this movie is more of a Halloween and Christmas crossover, it still checks off all the requirements for a holiday movie: excitement, cheer, and spirit. Moving from his trick-or-treat dimension to a beautiful Christmas town, Jack Skellington attempts to get the citizens of Halloween Town to experience Christmas. He believes that this is the “right way to live”, even though the citizens have a difficult time adjusting to the holiday lifestyle. Jack also recruits his girlfriend Sally to help him with the task of redoing Halloween Town and changing it to a more lively setting. If you want a more melancholy mood for your movies, this film is perfect for you.

3. Home Alone

The holiday season isn’t the same without watching “Home Alone” at least once. In this movie, a family prepares to visit Paris for Christmas and accidentally leaves young Kevin at home by himself. Kevin’s hilarious antics as he struggles to take care of himself is the best part of the movie. When the Kevin’s entire neighborhood block is compromised due to two ugly, intimidating thieves, Kevin attempts to save his house from being robbed. This heartwarming film is perfect if you and your family are looking for a good laugh.

His plan is interrupted when he meets a young Who named Cindy Lou Who, and the two start a beautiful friendship.
